Aeris Names Aziz Benmalek as CEO, Poised for Next Wave of IoT Innovation

In a strategic move signaling its ambitions to lead the future of IoT security and connectivity, Aeris has appointed seasoned global tech executive Aziz Benmalek as its new CEO and board director. The move places Benmalek—a veteran of Microsoft, Splunk, and Sage—at the helm of one of the fastest-growing AI-powered cellular IoT platform providers, as the industry races toward a projected $1.8 billion market by 2029, according to Berg Insight.

Benmalek’s appointment underscores Aeris’ commitment to scaling its operations and enhancing its technology offerings. With over two decades of experience in cloud, cybersecurity, and enterprise software, he brings a depth of expertise that aligns with Aeris’ mission to drive IoT innovation across industries. The company’s IoT platform and its Aeris Mobility Suite (AMS) currently support 7,000 enterprise customers, 30 mobile operator partners, and a staggering 80 million IoT devices worldwide.

A Vision for Expansion and Security

The IoT space has long struggled with challenges around security, scalability, and interoperability. Aeris’ position as a key player in cellular IoT solutions has enabled enterprises and telecom providers to manage connectivity with greater security and efficiency. Benmalek sees this as a pivotal moment to accelerate the company’s growth and further distinguish Aeris in a competitive landscape.

“I couldn’t be more excited to lead the amazing team at Aeris,” said Benmalek. “IoT represents one of the most dynamic opportunities in technology today, and Aeris has established itself as an IoT innovator and market leader. Our IoT platform delivers security, insights, and analytics to enable many of the world’s biggest companies to unlock new opportunities. We’re now doubling down on our IoT platform investments to secure and enable differentiation for our customers and partners while increasing Aeris’ competitive advantage.”

The company's leadership transition is bolstered by the continued involvement of Marc Jones, who will remain as board chair while serving as co-CEO during the transition. Jones, a longtime leader in the IoT space, expressed confidence in Benmalek’s ability to drive Aeris into its next phase.

“We are growing and profitable – and now have an amazing new leader in Aziz, who has scaled businesses at some of the world’s biggest, most successful companies,” said Jones.

Industry Experience to Drive Market Growth

Before stepping into his role at Aeris, Benmalek led North American operations at Sage, a multibillion-dollar enterprise software company, where he drove significant market expansion. Prior to that, he played a key role in Splunk’s global partner strategy and indirect sales. However, his longest tenure—spanning 22 years—was at Microsoft, where he helped build its cloud services division into a $4 billion business.
